Lapp's Ultra Flexible Cable Used in the New Year's Ball

OLFLEX®-FD 855 P continuous flex cable, by Lapp, will help ring in the New Year as part of the newly redesigned Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball for the year 2000.

The cable will provide power to the 696 lamps that light the ball, as well as control the movement of 90 mirrored pyramid panels that reflect this light, creating a dazzling effect.

OLFLEX®-FD 855 P was chosen because it is light weight, extremely flexible, and able to withstand extreme temperatures (from -30°C to +80°C) without losing its flexibility.

"We are proud to be one of the many companies that have joined together to make this New Year’s Eve Ball bigger and better than ever before," stated Olflex Director of Marketing Richard Buchicchio. "This will be the celebration of an entire century, and we are glad to be a part of it."

The new Ball is six-feet in diameter and 1,070 lbs., and covered with 504 crystal triangles featuring Waterford Crystal’s original "Star of Hope" design. The Ball will be illuminated by 600 multi-colored Philips light bulbs, 96 high intensity strobe lights, and 90 rotating pyramid mirrors.
